The portrayal of urban life in the modern Sindhi Ghazal Poetry

The portrayal of rural life and peasant society remains present in modern Ghazal poetry, but it also reflects the influences of urban life and culture. Modern Ghazal effectively captures feelings of loneliness, isolation, and solitude amidst the hustle and bustle of urban living, which are characteristic of modern city life. It explores the identity of individuals who often feel lost in the mechanical and noisy environment of urban settings. Urban life has engendered strong sensations of strangeness and alienation, and this research paper aims to investigate how modern Ghazal poetry in the Sindhi language embodies these feelings of alienation stemming from urban life experiences. The paper examines the reflections of the urban cultural environment found in Ghazal poetry, resulting from a close relationship with urban lifestyles. The new wave of modernity in literature has influenced the Ghazal genre to engage with urban life and its environment. Consequently, various aspects of urban existence—such as noise, crowds, strangeness, and disruptions in relationships—are depicted in modern Sindhi Ghazal poetry. Additionally, while Hindi Ghazal often explores deep ideas and creativity and reflects corporate culture, the urban life and environment depicted in Sindhi Ghazal take on a distinct character. This research paper seeks to explore these nuances in greater detail.
