Poetry encompasses multiple forms of expression, with two significant sources often considered: external and internal feelings. Shaikh Ayaz is recognized as a leading poet of the modern era. His poetry addresses common themes related to his society and community. He was a true literary artist, fully aware of his responsibilities as a poet. The subjects and topics that Shaikh Ayaz chose to explore were drawn from both contemporary and historical contexts. His writing effectively addressed historical themes and events, such as the tale of Dodo Soomro (an opera) and Hamarcho (a folk song), along with other unique subjects that are integral to folklore and have been passed down through generations. Undoubtedly, he was a sage poet who understood the importance of history and folklore. Through his work, he made a concerted effort to highlight forgotten stories and reinterpret them, engaging his readers with their past. Ayaz drew inspiration from Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, who also adopted various folk tales such as Susui Punhoo, Ummer Marvi, and Sorath Rai Diach. Shaikh Ayaz distinguished himself through his precise use of language, thought, diction, and themes, qualities that are rarely seen in the works of his contemporaries. This research paper aims to explore how Shaikh Ayaz keeps the memory of these stories alive, fostering a positive engagement with his audience. It also contributes to the understanding of the wisdom embedded in the poetry of one of the most influential poets in the Sindhi language, who has had a significant impact on literature in both prose and poetry over the past couple of decades.
