The genre of Character/Panegyric Poems occupies an important niche within Modern Sindhi poetry. Character Poems are not limited to a specific type of poetry but are distinguished by their subject matter. A poem that celebrates the heroics of various characters or individuals is referred to as a Character Poem or Persona Poetry. While such characters can be found in various poetic genres of classical Sindhi poetry —such as Gaah, Masnavi, Marsiyo (Elegy), and Qasida (Eulogy) — these do not enjoy a distinct identity or recognition as a separate poetic genre. Similarly, reflections of characters can also be found in Modern Poetry genres like Ghazal, Vaaee, Geet, and Prose Poem. The theme of a character poem is to depict the traits and heroics of a character, capturing all dimensions to portray them as a complete protagonist or antagonist. Character poems provide a broad canvas for creativity in the realm of Modern Poetry. This research study offers an analytical and critical review of character poems, focusing on aspects such as character, characterization, and their role in poetry. It includes all the character poems composed by various poets. The scope of this study encompasses a range of topics, including characterization, its significance in literature, and its poetic merit, specifically within Modern Sindhi Poetry.
