This study examines the assessment of Sindhi language learning with a particular focus on existing challenges and emerging strategies in the context of contemporary educational demands. Sindhi language assessment in Pakistan largely relies on traditional, memory based examination systems that prioritize reading and writing skills while neglecting listening and speaking competencies. As a result, learners’ communicative competence and real-life language use remain underdeveloped. Drawing on classical Sindhi pedagogical literature, including teacher training manuals by Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo (1990) and Shamsuddin Arsani (1986) and Sindh Education Department materials alongside modern assessment theories such as Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Bloom’s Taxonomy, and constructivist learning theory, this study adopts a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected through surveys, and curriculum analysis. The findings reveal significant gaps in assessment literacy among teachers, lack of standardized assessment frameworks, and minimal integration of digital assessment tools in Sindhi language education. The study proposes practical strategies, including performance-based assessment, rubric-driven evaluation, and speech recognition, and the development of a standardized Sindhi Language Proficiency Test (SLPT). The study concludes that modernizing Sindhi language assessment while preserving its linguistic and cultural heritage is essential for ensuring its relevance and sustainability in the digital age.
