Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (1689–1752) is a prominent poet in classical Sindhi poetry, with his verses compiled in "Shah Jo Risalo" (Poetry Book of Shah). Following Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast (1739–1827) emerged as a noted Sufi poet of his era. The poetry of Sachal Sarmast has come to the fore in the book "Sachal Jo Risalo" (Poetry Book of Sachal). Divided into Surs (thematic chapters) based on Sindhi classical folk romance stories, Sachal Sarmast has expressed his thoughts, feelings, and emotions and has addressed a variety of topics. In 'Sur Noori,' Sachal Sarmast draws inspiration from the tale of King Jam Tamachi and the fisherfolk girl Noori. This paper demonstrates that Sachal Sarmast employed the Sindhi language in an elegant and influential manner in his poetry by showcasing lexicographical nuances and grammatical prowess. It may be said that the vocabulary he has employed tends to introduce and preserve the Sindhi language through its varied and prevalent usage of the era. This research paper meticulously analyzes lexicographical and grammatical characteristics and properties of the Sindhi language found in 'Sur Noori.' The analysis takes into account elements such as compound words, reduplicated words, pronominal suffixes, adjectives, postpositions, and plurals following the Utradi (Northern) Sindhi dialect and idioms.
