Sindhi Society in the stories of Najam Abbbasi
Abstract
In Sindhi literature, Najam Abbasi is recognized for his distinct identity as a writer of short stories that highlight societal inequalities and injustices. He is considered a social realist whose literary work gives meaning to harsh social realities and provides a voice for oppressed classes. As a trained medical doctor, Najam Abbasi remained connected to society. In both his roles as a doctor and a writer, he diagnosed biological ailments as well as social issues. He developed a profound awareness of the social and economic struggles faced by individuals and the masses. The analysis of his stories reveals a compelling depiction of the oppression experienced by underprivileged classes. Unlike a fatalistic approach, Najam Abbasi does not portray social issues, violation of rights, or dominance as mere outcomes of fate. Instead, his work focuses on social and economic inequalities as the root causes of social ills and oppression. This research paper seeks to analyse the representative role of Najam Abbasi in creating progressive and socially realistic dimensions within his stories.
