The Origins of Certain Sindhi Words: A Morphological and Historical analysis
Abstract
Abstract
The Sindhi language has a history dating back to around 5000 BC. Modern Sindhi began to be promoted under British rule starting in 1843, which contributed to its current status in independent Pakistan after 1947. Linguistic research indicates that Sindhi possesses a distinct morphology and phonetic style, with many distinct letters that are not found in other languages. Additionally, many words in various languages are derived from Sindhi letters, suggesting that these terms are originally Sindhi. In this research paper, I have pointed out the original phonetics and morphological forms of certain Sindhi words, supported by the poetry of the renowned poet Shah Latif Bhitai, who lived in the 18th century. This research paper also discusses that since British rule that commenced in 1843, it can be inferred that some English words may also have Sindhi origins. In this paper, I have identified the transfer and borrowing of certain Sindhi letters and words in other languages of the Indus valley such as Sanskrit, Punjabi and Seraiki. In a way, this paper aims to contribute to the linguistic discussion on the phonetic and morphological origin and history of Sindhi words and as a result their link, transfer and use in other languages.
