Imdad Hussaini (1940-2022) was a renowned Sindhi language poet who excelled in various contemporary genres of Sindhi poetry. He was particularly known for writing poetry for children in Sindhi. During his time as a "Subject Specialist" in the Sindh Textbook Board Jamshoro (1973-2000), he had the opportunity to compile prose and poetry for textbooks from primary to higher secondary classes. In addition to gathering poetry from other poets, he also wrote his own poems and rhymes for the textbooks as required. Besides his work on the syllabus books, he continued to write for children's magazines and periodicals and also composed children's songs for radio and television.
While composing poetry for children of various grades, Imdad Hussaini kept the children's comprehension abilities in mind and wrote with consideration for the appropriate age group. This included adapting the style of expression to the meter of verse, diction, word length, and vocabulary. This demonstrates Imdad Hussaini's expertise as a skilled poet for kids, as well as his proficiency in other areas of literature.
This research paper provides a review of Imdad Hussaini's poetry, both for textbooks and for children, highlighting its distinctiveness, linguistic elegance, and relevance for children of various ages and levels, as well as its ease of comprehension for children.
